Gibsons by the beach Bed and Breakfast or Self contained
apartment, places you just 9 Klms south of the Northern Ben Boyd National Park,
above the cliffs and treed reserve of Cocora Beach on Twofold Bay, the third deepest
natural harbour in the world.
We are situated about half way between Melbourne and Sydney, Melbourne to Eden
being at least 6 hours driving only, without sightseeing or pitstops, and the
same the next day to Sydney. Many visitors enjoy a night stop over and then having
their appetite aroused vow to return for a longer stay.
Great stories from History, including whaling, and beautiful scenery await
you here.
Eden is a lovely natural place with reportedly the most temperate climate between
Melbourne and Sydney, giving lovely autumns and milder winters.
We have to the North and South the Ben Boyd National Park, where the cliffs
meet the sea and create wonderful scenery.
Within 10 minutes of Eden is the Northern section of Ben Boyd National Park,
where there is picturesque scenery, walks, beaches and bird life. The southern
section is more spectacular, starting with the Boyd Tower on the southern entrance
to the bay.
Unusual geographical features and coloured rocks are found at this site, as
well as great views to the south and from the rear of the tower there is a fabulous
view over the whole of Twofold bay.
This is a good whale-watching site in mid September through to late November
or really participate and take a whale-watching tour. In off season for whales
there is a great bay tour with the Cat Balou - usually the dolphins tag along.
Another exiciting opportunity is sailing with Blue Water Escapes(see links below).
In mid October we have our Whale Festival, which is a weekend where you will find
something for everyone, from sideshow rides, food, music, markets to fireworks.
Further into the National Park the road may be a bit rough, but the destination
is worth it. Whether you go to Saltwater Bay, Bittangabee Bay or continue down
to Greencape to explore the rocks around the cape or take a tour up in the lighthouse
on specified days. The history of shipping and disaster is explained well by the
lighthouse caretaker (the area aptly named Disaster Bay) and the sunsets are magnificent.
Again a good whale watching spot.
From Boyd Tower to Greencape is a designated 30 km walk, but don't be daunted
as you can do about 4 sections in short stints.
Back in town There is a great boardwalk around Lake Curalo, or you can just
relax in the peacefulness, fish, canoe or watch the birds.
There is also a new concrete walkway along Aslings beach which depicts the
maritime history of Eden in large stencils applied to the concrete while wet.
Golf seems to be very popular and I am assured our Eden Golf Course is one
of the best on the coast.
Scuba diving is also available, And recently kayaking on the Bay. Maybe fishing
is your desire. We have a wonderful all year Bay, no bars to manoeuvre. Put your
own boat in at Quarantine Bay or have all the hard work done for you and take
a fishing charter. Freedom charters can answer your fishing woes and supply all
you will need for a great day. You might just want to fish off the wharf, beach
or rocks.
The Eden Killer Whale Museum is a must. Such amazing and prolific history.
Well able to fill many hours.
Maybe you just want to walk the beaches. From the rear of our home you can
walk to Cocora beach and then along the headland to Quarantine Bay.
The wharves are exciting to wander day or night and the sunsets in summer over
Mount Imlay and the bay are a sight to behold.
Our restaurants serve fresh local produce, (seafood usually caught on the day)
many having won awards in the last few years, which is great for a small country
town.
We have great potters, you can watch Terry at work in the main street. If wood
is your thing then you must not miss the wood gallery on the highway, or the paintings
at the home of Anna Warren in Phillip Street.
20 km away is the Picture Show Man Cinema and there is Magic Mountain, Yellow
Pinch Wildlife Park and Top Fun for the kids. A great day can also be had at Mandeni
with several different Golf experiences even for the kids. Or Mum can pick up
the embroidery cottons she left behind at their Embroidery Cabin.
Markets are held in the Bega Valley Shire, a different destination each weekend,
the best being at Candelo, which is the first Sunday of the month and the smaller
Eden market the day before.
I hope maybe I have whetted your appetite for a trip to Eden. |
